Objectives of the WP
Determining the status of diffuse load monitoring in participating regions vs. the best known global level,
compiling best practices, and creating strategies for raising regional level of know-how and adopting more
effective practices
Identifying global demand, opportunities, challenges, bottlenecks for miniaturised water quality monitoring
technology within diffuse load monitoring
Description of work
Based upon data from D2.1, in the field of diffuse load monitoring, analysing in detail the status quo in
participating regions and additional regional capabilities potentially resulting in new research (A5.1, 17 PM):
--- existing regional RTD policies, plans and activities, their evolution and their impact
--- regional public and private RTD actors
--- financial actors relevant for RTD and innovation
--- strengths and weaknesses of the regions concerned
--- existing regional smart specialisation strategies, cluster policy and initiatives
--- economic development strengths, opportunities and needs, and economic development policies
--- European and international context
--- mentoring for capacity building
--- quantitative information for A5.1: this depends on the extent of A2.1 (please see A2.1 for details)
- Gathering and analysing best practices in diffuse load monitoring (A5.2, 21 PM):
--- exhaustive literature review for identification of the best diffuse load monitoring practices all over the world
--- in-depth analysis of the distribution and efficiency of current diffuse load monitoring techniques in the
participating regions, in comparison to the best identified best global level
--- in-depth analysis of the transferability of the techniques by means of identifying the success factors and
working principles of the best diffuse load monitoring practices
--- development of policies to aid the integration and dissemination of these techniques to other regions
- Analysing global demand, opportunities, challenges and bottlenecks for technology miniaturisation enabling
automated monitoring of rainwater quality in rivers and streams via small-size, self-powered monitoring devices
applicable for nonexpert use.
